Frequently Asked Questions
What supplies do you need to roll your own cigarettes?
Whether you're new to the concept or checking back to see what technology has come up with, we have everything you need for RYO supplies. We highly recommend for the best smoking experience is to gather these roll-your-own supplies:
- -Cigarette roller or
- -Cigarette rolling machine
- -Cigarette tobacco
- -Cigarette tubes
The basic idea behind a cigarette roller or machine is to place the tobacco of your choice into the chamber, insert a rolling paper and either use your hands to manually roll the paper, or put down the lid on an automatic machine model, which will roll it for you.
Machines, like cigarette tubes, come in three sizes: 70mm, 79mm, and 110 mm. 70mm creates a cigarette that is close to the filterless cigarette. 79mm will create smoke close to typical King-size cigarettes, and 110mm will make a cigarette close in size to the traditional 100mm.
Does putting tobacco in the fridge keep it fresh?
Rolling tobacco naturally dries out over time. Every instance of the seal broken and the pouch or container opening allows air inside. If rolling tobacco gets too dry, you end up with a harsh smoke that itches or even burns the throat and a too-quickly burning cigarette that turns into a cinder-filled mess.
To preserve your rolling tobacco's freshness, it is necessary to keep it at a temperature and humidity that will not cause it to lose texture and flavor and dry out. Here are our top tips for keeping your rolling tobacco fresh:
- -Purchase and store it in a box specifically designed for tobacco and cigars.
- -Use a clean shoe box, place tobacco inside, and purchase and use a humidifying stone. Humidifying stones have a similar texture to terra cotta and are submerged for roughly five minutes before storing with your tobacco.
- -And, of course, keeping your tobacco in the fridge. Rolling tobacco can retain moisture longer when stored in a plastic wrap bag or a specifically designed tobacco can in the fridge. What's important is that the package is hermetically sealed.
How do I keep my tobacco moist?
One of the best ways to prevent tobacco from drying out is to keep it protected. However, if you find your tobacco drying, here are a few methods to introduce moisture once more:
- -Use a hydrostone.
- -Use Tupperware or airtight plastic containers, but keep in mind if they are not airtight, your tobacco will continue to dry out.
- -Mason jars are another practical option.
- -Spray an ultra-fine mist of water sparingly on already dry tobacco.
- -Place an apple or a lemon slice in a large container of tobacco to keep it fresh, but check on the piece regularly and discard it as the first sign of aging.
