Baseball and cigars have gone together since seemingly the beginning of time. We all know that if there’s one thing Babe Ruth continues to be known for outside of his outstanding playing, it’s his deep love for cigars. Since then, we’re used to seeing our favorite baseball heroes puffing away when they’re off the field.
If there’s one time to pull out a cigar in a Baseball player or manager’s career, it’s after winning a World Series. After all, this is the ultimate accomplishment as far as baseball is concerned, and so proper celebration methods must be in order. Today, we’ll be talking about our three favorite World Series moments that involved cigar-smoking.
#3: Joe Torre, Manager of the New York Yankees (1996)
1996 was a long and crazy year for Joe Torre, manager of the New York Yankees. It was a year his team won the World Series, but it was also a year filled with personal struggles, mainly relating to health issues affecting his family. So, when he lit up a cigar to celebrate his big win, we were all rooting for him.
Anyone who knows Torre knows that if there’s one thing he adores as much as baseball, it’s cigars. He’s considered quite a cigar connoisseur, and many people want to know what he’s smoking since he’s always got the best.
The image of Torre enjoying a cigar is burned into the memories of Yankees fans, but we also remember this time as the beginning of a new era for the team.
#2: San Francisco Giants (2010, 2012 and 2014)
Who could forget the enormous success of the Giants in the first half of the decade? Within just five years, they managed to win the World Series not one, not two but three times. San Francisco felt invincible at that point, and of course, the team made sure to celebrate each win in style.
If there’s one way to celebrate in style, it’s lighting up a cigar. So, of course, it’s no surprise that cigars were handed out to the team and enjoyed together, all three wins in a row.
#1: Boston Red Sox (2018)
When the Red Sox won the World Series in 2018, they celebrated by enjoying a combination of champagne and cigars in the clubhouse. We know that things got a bit wild judging by the pictures taken from the day. But, if there’s one thing that we can say it’s that they deserved to savor every moment of their cigar-smoking celebration after defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-1.
What Will the Next 10 Years of World Series Cigar Celebrations Look Like?
The World Series is a massive celebratory event across the country, and many of us light up a cigar or two in order to join in on the fun. These three moments show that our favorite baseball superstars also enjoy that smooth tobacco after a great game. Even though the World Series is over, you can still celebrate in style by rocking your favorite players’ cigars of choice.
